Not sure any more!!!

We moved into our house in June, it was very old fashioned, large brick fireplace, beams on ceiling. We have stripped everything out of the living room, and redecorated.

The thing is im not sure anymore, my OH will kill me if he knew!!! Love my new hang on the wall fire it looks fab. Not sure about my paper now though, just got one feature wall, the other walls are painted in a ivory colour.

What to do?

Well, live with it for a couple of years, then change it, or get so used to it, forget it's there.

Think ill have to get used to it and redecorate this time nxt year. Got the rest of the house to do first!!! Think i rushed into it!!

Could you just paper over the feature wall in a different paper....quick and easy to do, cheap ish assuming your wall isn't huge?

To be honest that paper would drive me mad - you could paint over it?

I'd be temped to paint it the middle tone colour instead - but the trouble is that you risk the possibility of offending your other half ! I have done this in the past with my other half - and he still brings it up today - years later !
Maybe if a 'friends child' whipped a bit of paper off while you weren't looking ?! Or decided to draw on it in felt tip pen ? .... It's just a little fib to protect his feelings ...

I think the big problem is the fire doesn't go,it looks daft in the pic.

Either change the fire (because I don't think it would look right with much,especially there) or paint.

I love the giraffe though!

Not really much I can do with the fire unless I have the whole gas pipes etc moved!!!

Oh poop!In that case I'd be looking at a way to make the fire look more 'in place and also central.Are there shelves on the other side of the wall too?

It could just be that it all looks a little unbalanced that is making you unsure.

I would move the mirror too

I think the stripes are a bit too bold, and agree with painting over if you can face it. I also think the fire would look better with a shelf directly above it, almost like a mantelpiece. This would also pull the mirror in; at the moment it looks like a few things just randomly attached to the wall.

I think it is just a bit harsh but not offensive or that. I would soften it up a bit. I will have a think but my feeling would be it will cost more in accessories than to update the paper.

Yeah,something above (and preferably around as it looks really out of place)the fire would help and pull the mirror in.

I had a quick google for stripe wallpaper ideas and most seem to have a very large round ornate mirror over the fire and also have a fire surround. Also you could take down shelving and add a variety of photos (various sizes) perhaps in gold?

Also add a free standing lamp?

I would put up a mantle piece or a fire surround round the fire - it just looks a bit lost like that I think. And a bigger mirror above too.

I really don't know why the builders offset the fire more to one side of the room! It was when we moved in a huge brick fireplace, took up loads of space. I like my fire, it looks lovely when its on, just been googling and none of the picture with wall mounted fires have surrounds. I have hartford furniture from Next, sideboard and tv cabinet, may invest in something else from that range to fill the wall up

That looks a lot more homely.. Have you got a round mirror to soften up the look above the fireplace ?

You could use that mirror in another room but I wouldn't buy one if you don't.

Looks better already but the mirror is ruining it.Understand about the fire as mine is far from central lol

I think the fire may possibly (probably) also look better against a painted wall.A nice rich plum would work well with it and your furniture etc and the canvas I can see in the mirror

I would still change the mirror though or get rid all together
