Dining chairs mismatched or one colour?

I have a set of dining chairs which I plan to paint with annie sloan chalk paint and then recover the seat pads. The table is going to be in AS Provence (turquoise) and then I was considering having the chairs either in Old White or in a mix of colours (the kitchen is grey and white so neutral) - turquoise, pink, white and yellow (or any other combination, maybe 3 white 3 coloured). Does that sound bonkers or like it could be nice? Also I could do the seat pads in mad prints or in a plain linen - which would be better?

Here is my Pinterest so you get an idea of what sort of thing I like (clearly not neutral!!) here

Yes do do do go for mismatched colours!

I have, and my chairs area also mismatched, so each one is unique and painted a different colour ! I love it.

I'd do a mix of plain and patterned fabric for the seat pads, and you can always change them in future if you get bored of them,

Overmydeadbody which colours did you use?

I'm sure I myself will like them mismatched but don't think they will be to everyone else's taste!

But they will be to YOUR taste !!! And it's your home !!! Just look how popular those PINs are - your taste is not unique !!! Loads of people will love it too !!!

I hate decisions! A friend and an aunt visited yesterday and both (separately) looked a bit Confused at the coloured chair

It's only paint tho I suppose

Personally I would go for the bright table, matching neutral chairs but with different patterned chair pads for that extra pop of unusual.

But it's your house, if you like lots of colour - do it!! If you hate it you can always paint them again Grin

We have mismatched dining chairs - 6 all upholstered in different coloured fabrics.
We love it and it is probably the most complemented thing in our house - people seem to love it!

Go for the mismatched coloured chairs with different fabrics that all tone with each other. Will be lovely!

We used to have mismatched chairs (live in a cottage and like the shabby chic/country style) prepare for the "would you like money for Christmas towards some chairs?" "I know someone selling their dining table and chair if you are interested?" Etc. I got so annoyed with people assuming my mismatched chairs (carefully specifically chosen from flea markets etc) were like that because I couldn't afford matching!!! In the end I replaced them with a (near) matching set of antique farmhouse chairs yet the bloody MIL still thinks its because were poor!!! These chairs cost more than her Laura Ashley ones!!!

Oh I like the sound of them mismatchedSmile I painted and recovered our dining chairs in the summer. It was the first diy project like that I'd ever attempted but they look pretty good. I must admit they are all matching. I never occurred to me to mismatch them but it's a great idea!

DorothyBastard · 21/12/2013 16:30

What have you decided to do OP?

SilverSixpence · 22/12/2013 17:08

I decided to have all white with mismatched cushion pads and the turquoise table, just because I think it will suit the kitchen more (it's sage blur/green with grey units)
