Colours for a north facing bedroom

We're having an extension and our master bedroom will be the new one, that faces north. Our current one faces south and is light duck egg, but I don't know what colour to go with for the new one. I want it to look cosy but light, as it will probably h r a tendency to look dull because of the lack of sunshine. Any ideas appreciated!

A deep egg yolk yellow with hints of red in the soft furnishings. It sounds weird but I have a north facing sitting room and these colours make it feel warm and cosy.

Deep yellow walls with burgundy curtains and rich red velvet throws and cushions. I have a throw that gathers the two colours together, a patchwork of red velvet and yellow silk.

Avoid a citrus yellow.

The other colours I have used for a gloomy bedroom are indigo and copper tones. They are warm and inviting.

Choosing colours should be one if the circles of hell in my opinion!

Just painted my north facing living room wild primrose, but it has a touch of green in it to my eye so it feels a bit cold Hmm

Thank goodness for tinsel Wink

Farrow and Ball seem to agree with Trifle here. Not sure I could cope with yellow personally but I do like embracing a dark room with a dark colour - it can make it feel like a real sanctuary.

I love grey and would maybe use Downpipe with flashes of really bright yellow or pink as suggested [ here - you need great lamps too which will warm everything up.

Do you use Pinterest? Some great ideas there.

Love this

Thanks everyone Smile

I don't think DH will go for yellow but I'm wondering about grey and aubergine / purple. Perhaps the odd flash of peacock blue..?

I don't like yellow either, I would embrace the dark cold blue and warm it up

aubergine is gorgeous, some orange might be nice as well. I don't like yellow either, orange is much warmer.

Hmm am wondering about chocolate / cream / bronze / gold now too. Thanks, you have inspired me!

Dulux damson looks fab with white trims !! And is super cosy ! I have used it in our guest room ( dual aspect N & S ) with crisp white bed linen and a couple of cushions from next and a Next table runner along the bottom of the bed that matches the cushions ! ( cheaper than buying coordinating bedlinen ! And can be packed away and replaced with isle of Skye tartan accessories when the Scottish family arrive for a visit !)

swapped to phone to upload a pic ... hope I can find one now !!!

damn - haven't got one of the paint - just the table runner on the bed !! soz !!

Ours is grey, and we are going to have chocolate brown furniture and purples for the dressings - seems warm and inviting at the moment, but its not finished yet!
