Room for a 10/11 year old

I have promised my ds that we will redo his room when he goes to secondary school. He's only in year 5 but I am extremely indecisive and fairly skint so am starting to think about it now.

He would like carpet but I am going to go for some form of laminate + rugs due to my inability to clean anything else. I really have zero taste and like things that look shabby, but for him I would like it to look good. Where would you look for ideas? Do you have any top tips?

Is his bedroom on the same floor as your room? If you put a laminate floor in it will be much noisier than carpet, when he goes to bed later than you (which he will) he'll disturb you.

Added a picture of my sons room he's nearly 10 , plain white walls dark carpet and space invaders wall stickers, he has bunk beds with snurk astronaut bedding and an ikea desk and turquoise drawers.

Decorating 9yo ds' room at the moment. We are doing pale grey walls, navy curtains, plain orange bedding with a dark grey throw and cushion. Painting the built in shelves to match the curtains. Orange shade for the overhead light and am thinking of a dark grey anglepoise type bedside light.

It already has a neutral carpet so we are sticking with that and keeping the existing furniture as well.

There's a classic Star Wars poster that I am going to frame for him and I have some dark blue picture frames for some other pictures.

I would choose the bedding first and then take your cue on colours from that.

If you search on teen boy bedroom on pinterest you will get loads of ideas.

Currently in the same position, I hunted around on pintrest and created a board of ideas, then showed them to my son and he decided he wanted the following:

-pale walls with one covered in maps

• desk with 'goal' under (see link)
• old lockers (will take time to find but he loves the idea_
• mini skateboards used as bedside shelves.
