will I regret cream sofa + kids??

I've just moved into a new house and have been sofa shopping..i've found a beautiful cream sofa (which comes in a range of other colours but I've fallen for the cream). I've got a 2yo DS and just about to have another DC...will I really regret it? DH keeps referring to jam on toast, muddy shoes and cat paws. tell me he's wrong!!!!

We have a DS and a cream sofa
DS is 5, sofa is 9yo and still cream
It's scotguarded and has removable covers so when disaster strikes (huge pregnancy bleed, dropped glass of red wine etc) it's cleanable.
I usually have a bottle of vanish upholstery cleaner in the cupboard but it's weathered well with not too much effort.
DS isn't allowed food on the sofa but that's the only rule.

I have cream sofas Ikea Ektorp, ds older than your two but I cover the seats with cream throws from ikea so they are washed regularly and the arms are covered in cream covers bought from ebay.Can't really notice them but they are washed regularly as well. The covers are washable as well.
I am thinking of getting sand/beige covers as well for the winter . Hve had same sofa for yrs and keep changing the covers .

If it's leather then it will be fine (will need a proper good clean every few months or so), wouldn't dream of a cream/light fabric sofa.

We have a white sofa & 2 under 2, it's currently white & chocolatey fingerprinted

Been there and done that and now am on cream sofa #2, this one Ektorp with removable covers, and so much better than the original non-Ikea one. The DCs are a lot older than they were when I got the first one but I still see the odd mark and I have also acquired a black cat since getting rid of the old sofa. When it all starts looks dingy I whip the covers off and wash them all so they will all wear at the same rate.

I am also thinking of getting winter covers!

I think it depends on what you are like in general with housework etc! When we moved into our newly refurbished cottage the entire place was carpeted with cream carpets! We had a no shoes rule etc and tried our absolute hardest to keep them clean - impossible!! We now have wooden floorboards!! On the flip side I have friends that have dogs and kids white cream carpets a d cream sofa etc and her place is immaculate!! But then again she always has come cleaning product it other in her hand!! If you love housework then go for it.... If you prefer low maintenance then stay well clear!

Firstly ban shoes from the house and food anywhere but the dining table then you are in with a chance as long as the covers are washable.

I have two cream sofas and the covers are looking fine after many washes and after many teenagers have lounged all over them. I have had to wash out blue ink, Nutella, red wine and tea.

I regretted the cream sofa before I had even had kids. Can't imagine how mucky it would have been with two kids in the house!!

Thankfully it had removable covers that I replaced with darker ones.

Yep. I made the mistake too and now have a bunch of lovely plaids to cover up the mess my terrible twos have made.
Send the couch back or be prepared to invest in those...

Argh this one doesn't have removable covers...but lots of cushions that make up the back and sides. I like the idea of arm covers during kiddy daylight hours. The fabric we're going for is beige and light brown flecked so in hoping that would help with hiding dirt??! We had cream carpets in our last house and they we're completely trashed but came up nicely with a professional clean so perhaps I need to budget for regular cleaning? (Anyone know average sofa cleaning prices?) I have fallen for it and the room does "need" a light coloured sofa! Wink

Sister has a cream sort of suede sofa bought when her dds were over 12 - it looks tatty , dirty and I know cost a fortune. ( they had a no eating drinking rule etc )

A cream fabric sofa in a house with kids? Of course you'll regret it!! Grin

And what's more - when they get ribena/jam/felt tip on it, you'll go mad...but it'll be your own fault for buying sucg an impractical sofa in the first place.

Yes!

We've had a white sofa for two years. It washed well to start with but not so well now (and can you be arsed to clean your sofa every week?)

Our brown leather one is much more practical.

3 children here and i wouldnt have a cream sofa. Not ever. I dont like washable covers / arm caps etc (just me).
I imagine its quite a expensive purchase so difficult to replace. If the room needs a lift I would lighten the walls or curtains or something.

Cheapo IKEA lether sofa have lasted 10+ years and survived 4 children.

Oh, and don't set yourself up for the annoyance and stress you will feel every time one of your darling offspring comes anywhere near your precious sofa - protective mother hovering over piece of furniture not a happy home makes IMO.

Yes. Agree completely with pacific. DP has a precious sofa, purchased pre DC and for us cost €€€. For the past 4.10 years it has been covered with crappy throw after crappy throw, that in themselves has cost me a fortune in getting cleaned after someone gets milk, urine, vomit, cheese dippers on them. Fek I hate that sofa.

According to DP we maybe able to unveil it again in 2015.

Unfortunately wipe clean brown leather is your own way to go.
