  • would they make the room seem very dark? We have a cream carpet, Egyptian Cotton colour walls and a brown sofa. We want the house to be bright and flooded with light.

Really depends on the room, size windows, how much natural light, which way it faces, makes a big difference how you hang them too.

As said before it depends on the room, window size & how curtains are hung.
We're having dark grey velvet floor length curtains in the dining room but as the windows are over 2m high on a 3m wide bay, the ceiling is over 3m high & the room floods with light throughout the day (I keep thinking the lights on in there) I'm not worried.
I wouldn't put them in a small or naturally dark room.

Okay it is a bright room with tall windows. I've bought some so will see how they look - can always return. Thanks for your advice.

I an toying with the idea of a thick velvet border on linen curtains to give a bit more texture without loss of light.
Love a bit of velvet.

You will need heavy duty curtain rods, and make sure they are very firmly anchored in the wall.
