So we just moved into our new house which has a new bathroom...great except I hate it! Big, dark, plastic units floor to ceiling. It's a good size room made to look smaller. It does hide a boiler but surely it doesn't need to be so ugly! Help what can I do?

Yerk. Is the boiler in the top bit of the floor to ceiling cupboard? If so can you remove the bottom bit? You can paint the units if you use a melamine primer - i transformed some horrific wardrobes with this, lashings of Farrow & Ball & pretty handles.

Definitely paint it cream and find some decent handles.

I am so glad its not just me! DH and DF when saw it both say its fine but I really don't. Going to get DH brother whose a joiner to come see what he thinks but at the very least we will be painting it cream/getting it painted as would be worried about paint flaking off if we did it-I guess thats what the primer is for? Thanks for the encouragement to do something about it :-)

If you use something called Easy Surface Preparation, the paint will not flake off. Alternatively melamine paint can go straight on but you will find you have to touch it up once a year or so as it does show the knocks.
