1930's box bay window curtains/blinds????

We are decorating our living room and I'm stuck on how to 'dress' our 1930s box bay window. Windows at the sides are approx 63cm each, the big windows across the middle are 250cm with a 172cm drop.

To make it more difficult the windows go right up to the ceiling so nowhere to fix anything except on the plastic bit at the top of the windows.

The previous owners had roller blinds which were filthy, very thin (so no insulation!) and also there were huge gaps at the sides because the blinds didn't meet due to the chunky mechanism.

We are trying to make it a cosy room so would like something as warm as possible. I'm thinking roman blinds but would have to have 2 across the large middle window. This is also coming in very expensive so looking for thoughts, suggestions and all ideas very welcome!!

We are in a similar position, but 1950s house with one window in the middle. I am erring towards curtains to the floor, as these will be cosier and far less expensive (even though more fabric is needed), but that does mean losing light/views from the sides.
In our bay upstairsa bedroomwe have curtains and they look lovely. Some curtain tracks (swish sologlyde) fit to the ceiling or wall.

I had curtains in my 1960's home, curtain track was fitted to the ceiling as the windows went to the ceiling as well. I went with thick interlined curtains to stop the cold and they work brilliantly.

Will have a look at ceiling tracks thank you. Only problem I can see with full length curtains is that the radiator is under the window so curtains would block it when closed, it's also a big recess so we have a sofa in it. I loved the windows when we viewed the house just didn't realise that they would be a problem!!

In our 30's box bay, we have plain white wooden slatted blinds at each window, with 2 in the middle (ikea, and they are attached to the ceiling) and then a pole and curtains across the whole bay section, so we can draw them at night for extra insulation. We also use the bay as a toy storage so it's useful to draw the curtains and revert back to an 'adult' room

we have but exactly the same problem

nothing of use to offer- I have been putting off Dealing With It for nearly two years- only just thown the awful old dusty blinds on the skip, so now have to do something aaargh

have drawn a blank so far so am going to see what you do and then copy you

not cheap but plantation shutters look lovely on this sort of bay IMO.

Thanks all! Will keep looking and let you know what we end up with. Like the idea of shutters but think I would prefer the coziness of fabric.

Button, we can't even do that as there is nowhere to put a curtain track across the bay so think we would need tracks/poles in a |_| shape plus we have our sofa there, don't think my DH would like to be shut out by a curtain!!

I used to have a bay just like thus. I made Interlined curtains to the top of the radiator. They kept heat in really well and interlining makes all fabrics look more sumptuous. Roman blinds are nice and look minimal but curtains create warmth in a room. (Curtain maker by trade)

I'm sure I've seen curtain poles that have connectors so you can fit them into bay windows? Where of course, is another question!

I agree with shutters. We have them in our bay downstairs and they look great. I am on the second set of blinds for the upstairs bay and neither have been right as there will always be a gap. I think curtains ruin the shape of the window but that's just me.

We looked into plantation shutters as I love them, but it would have meant losing window/light from the side when they were open. Would this be a problem for you too?

Do look at the sologlyde curtain track--we've moulded it into our upstairs bay and I'm sure it can be ceiling mounted. Not the most attractive thing but it works well and is not conspicuous.

I think we've decided on three roman blinds for our bay... Want the panoramic view/light more than the height.
