Non-naff alternative to net curtains...

Can anyone advise me?!

We have a large bay window in our sitting room. We currently have the net curtains that were there when we moved in (washed of course). I hate them, but our window is close to the road, which is the walking route from a busy commuter station.

Does anyone have a stylish alternative to net curtains? Preferably something that still let's the light through.

Thanks!

What about wooden blinds. Do a wide choice of colours. I would have cream

We have white plantation shutters which do the job but in our last house we had sheer roller blinds which let more light in and gave complete privacy yet you could see through them (reasonably well). They were very neat and less expensive than the plantation shutters (easier to keep clean too)

I have had wooden blinds, but would love shutters.

What about some of the translucent film, on the lower half of the windows? I've applied that to a window before and it was relatively simple to do.

Window film like this?

Or roller blinds that you pull up and fix halfway to let in light in the top of the window (like cafe style shutters)?

Thanks everyone. Would love shutters, but too expensive.

Will look at the old thread!
