Opening up kitchen & playroom - where to start?

We're going to knock down a wall which will mean our kitchen and playroom have more of a flow through rather than being seperate rooms.
The kitchen units are plain cream wood with a stone flag floor and the playroom currently has light brown / dark beige carpet.
The kitchen can be dark so it has lots of spots on the ceiling and is currently painted a kind of aqua / light turquoise. The playroom is brighter and painted in cream with large bottle green leather sofas.

I'm getting quite excited but also rather overwhelmed by the prospect that I could make quite a lot of changes eg replace carpet with oak flooring, replace sofas (which we've had about 13 years though there's nothing wrong with them)

I'll need to redecorate obviously and am thinking that ill need to make the kitchen walls' colour replicated in the playroom in some way, cushions or pictures maybe?

We'll need a couple of bar stool type chairs, should we use this as the opportunity to have a funky modern room? ( the house is victorian, rest of it v traditional)

Where can I look online for ideas? Excited but also scared!
Budget moveable but need to know what I want before convincing dh that it needs spending.
