What colour to paint a child's dark bedroom?

We've recently moved house.

There's a lot of work to be done but the first thing I promised ds1 (aged 8) is that his room would be repainted asap. It's currently pink!

It's quite a dark room too so I'd like some advice on colours. His furniture is white which I'm going to jazz up with brightly coloured cushions, curtains, red or green chair etc.

I was thinking perhaps:

this blue with the window and skirting painted brilliant white but is it too cold?

or maybe a bright, sunny warm yellow with the same brilliant white window frame and skirting boards or is this quite a boring choice?

Help!

If you like f&b paints I found this useful. I wouldn't put yellow in a boys room. F&b very helpful on their facebook page if you message them. I've done it a few times. If it's that dark I would be tempted to use off white with your colourful accessories. Strong white F & b has a hint of grey but will brighten the room. Maybe do one wall slightly darker. I love cornforth white which is grey but with a warm tone. The blue you have chosen might be a little cold on all walls. Depends if it's a small or large room

Not putting yellow in a boys room is bullshit. Yellow is a colour anyone can enjoy ffs. I've never heard such a crock!

If you are a bit scared of full on yellow you could cheat a bit like me. Son wanted a grey and yellow room. I convinced him just to have a zingy Limey yellow door. Pale Lime from Little Greene Paint co. it does look good. A few lime accessories and lots of white, black and grey elsewhere.

I was going to say either yellow which is a fab happy colour for boys and girls or go for an off white and maybe get some of those wall stickers that are fashionable at the moment to jazz it up a bit, at least then you can change and up date the room easily without having to re-paint.

mumm can I ask why you wouldn't put yellow in a boys room?

Yellow will lift the room up - it is the best color to use in dark rooms if you want to brighten them up, I think. Go for it!
