I want to order the expedit 4x4 shelving unit from IKEA, I'm nowhere near a store and can't drive so ordering online, however I also want to buy a load of the drona boxes to go in it but they aren't stocked online.

I am having no luck in finding affordable alternatives online (Drona boxes are £2.50 each and I'm not keen on spending more than that) I absolutely love the GLTC ones but they're a bit of a rip off.

Has anyone got any ideas?

TIA

Home base sell something similar for around that price. :)

Megsdaughter · 22/08/2013 17:37

I had these, wheels off and stacked two together

Just bought boxes from asda to fit.

CreatureRetorts · 22/08/2013 17:38

Sometimes you can get ikea stuff on amazon so try there?

paperclipsarebetterthanstaples · 22/08/2013 17:40

Sometimes people sell them on ebay - probably for people like us who don't drive :-)

Idespair · 22/08/2013 17:41

The gltc ones look nice in the picture but they are horrid. I ordered 2 and the fabric had been treated with something really really stinky. I sent them back!

Do you know anyone who lives near ikea? As those boxes likely come flat and would be relatively easy to post.

Idespair · 22/08/2013 17:42

Yes, there are loads on eBay.

we have a different unit - argos cube ones, got them when they were on a 3 for 2 and we have 6 (3 2 door cupboards and then 3 more on top, the middle one is 2 door cupboard and the ones either side are 2 shelves 2 cupboards) works brilliantly in the girls bedroom and I can cram loads of soft toys in them plus I think they will be able to use them for years. obviously they come in non pink too.

I definitely want to buy the expedit unit because I really like the look of it and it works out cheaper than alternatives.

I'm not having any luck finding alternatives even with all your suggestions Sad

I can get the drona boxes on amazon/ebay but they're twice the price!

The red trofast boxes fit as well, if that's any use?

RiotsNotDiets · 22/08/2013 19:09

Do they? They aren't the same measurements though?

Our local B&M bargains place have storage boxes - you could try those?

RobotHamster · 22/08/2013 19:19

If the expedit unit is against some skirting then it'll hang a tiny bit out the back, and be level with the front, it looks good actually.

Don't forget the lids :)

Can I suggest a 5x1 expedit unit on its side (if you have the space) its great as a surface to play on and can be used as a bench.

Flamin' nora, why is it trying to charge me £50 for delivery?

OP posts:
RobotHamster · 22/08/2013 19:27

Blimey! We just had a lorry full of stuff delivered for £35! Are you in the middle of nowhere?

Have a search on eBay for one locally, they're always on there

RobotHamster · 22/08/2013 19:30

Just seen these boxes on amazon - any use?

Messupmum · 22/08/2013 19:34

I bought those units and got the boxes from argos, a set of three for £9 I think? They are a bit smaller than the ikea boxes but it doesnt matter if the box is over filled.

RiotsNotDiets · 22/08/2013 19:36

I can't find any on ebay that don't need collecting, and I can't collect anything that big because I don't have a car.

It's not faiiiiiirrrr!!

With delivery the 4x4 expedit and 16 trofast boxes would cost me £173. I was already thinking it was getting pricey at £123.

I might see what I can sell on ebay to pay for it!

Bear in mind that it'll have a good resale value if you decide to get rid of it as well - for reasons you have just discovered!

£50 is v expensive for delivery. How far away is your nearest ikea?

RiotsNotDiets · 22/08/2013 19:50

It probably is cheaper to get it delivered and I am planning on keeping it for a long time (Which is why I chose expedit instead of trofast)

Have you not got a mate to give you a lift in return for coffee and cake in the cafe?

We've got white 2x2 units from ikea with pink and black storage boxes in and they work really well.

RiotsNotDiets · 22/08/2013 20:16

I'd feel a bit cheeky asking.

SPBisResisting · 22/08/2013 20:41

Where are you?

fieldfare · 22/08/2013 20:43

Don't be daft. I'd not bat an eyelid if a friend asked me.

RobotHamster · 22/08/2013 20:46

I've done this for friends countless times, just ask :)
