What colour scheme looks nice with mahogany furniture?

We've been given some lovely mahogany bedroom furniture by my gran, but it has made our bedroom with white walls, light green curtains and beige carpet look awful. Happy to change all the decor since it wasn't done by us. But what colours look good and fairly modern with quite old fashioned mahogany furniture!?!

Our dark furniture looks good with our aubergine / sage green colour scheme. Well, I think so :)

pale grey is very in - and neutral enough to work beautifully with mahogany furniture - the warmth of the wood balances really well with the cooler grey - together with white skirtings, windows and plain white bed linen ! will look sophisticated !! choose a grey to work with the amount of daylight in the room - ie the lighter the room the darker the grey - or a darker room with a paler grey ... have fun !:-)

Moonstone blue looks great with dark wood

I would have said white walls would work best but obviously not!

How about rich dark blues or greens?

I think maybe keep the white walls but change the curtains to a rich dark green instead of a pale green, or a navy blue.

We have a sludgy greeny-beige colour and a pale aqua with ours in the bedroom and it looks lovely. We also have mahogany in our sitting room with gold and deep red. I think you probably need a bit more warnth than white with mahogany

Lots of very different suggestions. Thanks! I'll google some of the colours.

I looked on pinterest and saw white rooms with mahogany furniture but ours don't look good. I think the white would need to be softer.

Sounds like warm greens are a safe option, but I'm really taken by the soft grey and mahogany picture you posted. Just not sure I have the confidence to pull it off! Will have to think hard about how to choose a grey. The room is very light, but it is a bedroom so often relying on low lights.

The grey is beautiful with dark wood. crown paints have so many pale greys if you aren't feeling bold. i was thinking about "platinum" for one of my rooms, its silver- ish and really pretty.

i also think white walls would look fab if you arent brave enough.

order/ buy loads of sample pots so you dont make costly mistakes. its better to have spent £20 odd on sample pots than to waste £70 on paint, ££30 on undercoat and then £100 more on paint/ effort/ time/ disruption of re-doing!

I would go for dark grey silk type curtains too, then have accents of plum. Oh, i love dream colour schemes.

I have a soft grey living room with buttermilk and duck egg carpet, blinds and sofa. It's very restful.

Creamy white and teal looks amazing with dark wood imo

I have mahogany dining furniture and the walls are a soft green, curtains are cream with green and pink/purple pattern. I think it looks lovely!

Our bedroom has dark wood furniture, cream carpet and curtains, pale cream walls, white bed linen, cream / coffee throw and cushions. We've gone for a red-based picture to add some colour.

We have dark wood in our spare room/office and have gone for off white and eau de nil throws, magazine files, picture colours. It looks quite fresh. I also like navy with mahogany and white.

I have dark furniture in my bedroom with light blue (F&B Borrowed Light) walls, oak floors and sand-coloured curtains. It looks nice and it's peaceful.

What's under your carpet?
