Where can I get a really large rug?

Our living room has a wooden floor and I'd like to get a rug (DD is going to be crawling soon and it's a bit chilly in winter)

However the rug needs to be at least 270 cm x 180 cm (9' by 6') to look right, and ideally a bit longer than that even. Most of the 'large' rugs I can find are 2m or under.

I don't want to spend too much as it will inevitably get stuff spilt on it... a cotton rug would be ideal as then I could cram it into the washer but I can't find any that big?

the living room is pale grey so something that ties in with that would be nice.

any ideas much appreciated!

I have seen some at ikea.

I love this one but it is quite bold:
www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40260519/.

its 300 x 200.

Some carpet shops will sell you a piece of carpet then 'whip' it for a small fee. The whipping is the binding round a rug. I had a plain carpet made into a large rug (17ft x 14 ft) at an extra £30 for the whipping.

The Natural Rug Company - all wool or cow/reindeer hides & they'll make a rug to any dimensions you want. Very cheap too

Thanks! I knew of the natural rug co but thought it would be v expensive ... just done a mock up one and it's about £500 if I go for a wool mix, which is not as much as i expected but still a bit more than I wanted to spend... but maybe worth it for a wool rug

Thanks for ikea suggestion - I had looked a while ago but didn't like any but I see they now have some new ones so I will have a proper look! I forgot they keep bringing out new designs.

Any other ideas v welcome!

I have several large rugs that I got from carpet warehouse outlets and they Whipped the edges for me ! all under £200 !! all look fab ( and all about 3m x 2.7m ish !! )
the only one I paid more for was one that's 6m x 3.5m for our bedroom - that one was £400 ! still a bargain !!!

We've got a large ikea rug, it's either 3x2 or 3x3 (partly under furniture and am sofa-bound by cat so can't check. It's plain red and looks loverly with our grey walls and dark floorboards. Think it was about 150, and very soft underfoot.

I saw some huge ones in Costco yesterday, they were quite thick and fluffy in cream, white, brown or mink and the huge ones 10x6 I think were about £130.

minipie · 12/08/2013 09:55

Wow, just looked on the Costco website and they have some nice wool rugs for ridiculously low prices... so far the biggest are still a bit small for our living room but considering getting one for the bedroom instead! Will keep looking for the really big ones, thanks elvisola.
