Are Ikea Ektorp sofas comfy?

Am desperate for new sofa as fabric on ours has completely gone and we have throws over them. I like the idea of the Ektorp ones with replaceable covers, but husband reeeeally wants a comfy, slumpy, slob out sofa. And he will not go to IKEA except under duress, so I want to be sure it will be worth a trip to test them out!

Any thoughts?

They are ok for the price. But if its really comfy you want, look elsewhere.

I have one in the kitchen btw and one in the teenagers' hide out but wouldn't choose to have it in my main sitting room

I had the ektorp years ago and found it a bit hard and not very comfortable they may have improved them now though ?. I now have the kivik and find that much better and more squashy . Mine has removable washable covers like the ektorp and so far has stood up well to bouncing toddlers . I have the 3 seater with the extra long bit attached to it ( sorry I can't remember what it's called !) and its huge.

I have two and they are fine. Not luxe obviously but certainly no complaints from my arse.

I have one in the living room. They are not as comfy as I would like but needs must just now as have a three DCs aged 4 , 2 and 11 months and all covers wash really well. Once older and less messy we will replace with more comfy sofa but its great for the stage we are at now and looks good. We have a red one with lots of cushions that all wash as well, thank god.

We have them and I love them because I hate squishy sofas as they are bad for my back. The covers do wash really well but the replacement covers are nearly the same price as a new sofa- which I think is a rip off.

Mmm, I didn't know there were other sofas that you could buy replaceable covers for! Ooh!

The Kivik looks nice.

Kids are 8 and 6, so past toddler stage but NOT, apparently, past wiping chocolate fingers on the sofa and spilling juice everywhere. Nor is my husband .

We have the three seater with footstool thing as a playroom sofa. I've spent a fair amount of time on it recently (bed rest). It's not one you sink into, but I find it really comfortable with the footstool.

They are too small and the backs too low to be real slob out sofas. Also the back cushions slip and squash down. But they are inexpensive which is a huge attraction and if you have children you don't need to be precious about them. Depends on your budget really, I'd say, but if you don't want to spend too much I would look at DFS or some sales as well.

But the Kivik also has slippy down back cushions and the arms are sharp and not slob out ones! It does look nice though and 8 and 6 year olds still give pretty hard wear to a sofa as I recall.

Have just spotted that Multiyork sofas all have replaceable covers. Hmmm....

We have one in the kids' playroom. I don't find it comfortable at all and the covers don't wash that well either. Plus, they're a bugger to iron.

Multimyork are much nicer. I had two throughout my three children's childhood and got rid of them only six months ago after 18 years. They would have gone on longer but i wanted different styles. The removable co ers wash brilliantly

It was fine as a first sofa for us when we were skint but we were glad when we could afford to change it.

We've found Ektorp is plenty comfy. We've got the three seater (but with only two cushions - now discontinued) fold-out bed version.

And near our house is this. Gotta love it for the pun in the name alone:

Love that link, Pendant! Wonder if I could just adapt those covers to fit our current sofa...not a dissimilar shape...

We have 3 armchairs, the sofa bed and the 3 seater. And the footstool. If I sit on the sofa I get back ache.

Two armchairs ad the footstool were from Bargain Corner section of Ikea. They often keep covers out the back too so it's worth looking and asking if they have any covers reduced.

Oh, yeah, we got almost all of our covers from the bargain corner (pretty much the only way we could afford any of this), then dyed some of them. The main body is green, one set of cushion covers is green and we also have one set of cushion covers in wine (for Christmas arent' we sad).

Have been thinking about buying my own fabric and making some more.
