Help! What colour carpet should I get?

At the moment the living room has wooden floorboards and purple/gold wallpaper (nicer than it sounds, I hope). I want to put a carpet down because my baby will be crawling soon and the wooden floor has lots of nails sticking out, also it's noisy and cold.

But what on earth colour should I get that won't look horrible with the wallpaper? I guess because of the baby it should be something that won't show stains. The room is very small and dark already though. Help!

Whatever you do, don't get cream - worst pregnant purchase I made, it was ruined before DS was one

I have cream carpets & 2 DSs, my friend is 1001! Now they are older rules about only eating at the table etc

A goldy beige could look nice. Something with flecks to hide stains! A twist pile will wear well.

Dark beige. That will be ok with pretty much all future decorating too.

Another vote for dark beige looks good and hides lots of stains

When I am queen I will make. Law that all carpets must be dark beige, and all skirting boards must be white.
