DD aged 6 hates her room - help!

DD aged 6 hates her bedroom as its all pink and she hates pink (I decorated it before she was old enough to express an opinion!). I want to redecorate it in pale blue and get a new duvet (she really wants a pale blue gingham one or open to any other pale blue duvet ideas ). Problem is I cant afford new curtains (strange window shape so have to have them made). How can I tie pale pink polka dot curtains into a new blue room. Any help (& pictures) appreciated. Carpet cream so not an issue and room is very small 8' x 10' ish. Thank you

Can you dye them?

Shesaysso · 03/06/2013 21:44

No I dont think it would work as background pale candyfloss pink with white dots :(

Pale bues and pnks can go together very 'in' rigth now.
how handy are you?
could you stitch/iron-stick on some contrasting material. This kind of idea www.ohsogirly.com/shabby-chic-shower-curtain/
Could possibly be gingham?

Or in similar vein, cut outs.
Flowers, owls, cupcakes, etc. etc...

Pale pink and pale blue go together just fine, I'd just repaint the walls and accessorize with the colour that your dd now likes. If the curtains have a distinctive pattern then maybe see if you can get some cushions in the same pattern - I'm sure you'd be able to find pink and blue polka dots cushions somewhere if you wanted to make it look as if you had specially chosen the curtains for the new look.

Or you could get pale blue tie backs for the curtains or add a blue fringe or band to them. Depends on how handy you are I guess!

Does she really hate pink? Or just hate all pink. Could you do a few pale pink picture frames, say? (With un-pinky pictures/ photos in them). You can get some wooden ones from ikea and paint them with a paint sample which matches the curtain colour.

Perhaps do something with similar fabric in different colour eg. a polka dot blue or green cushion and some of this as a tie back too.

Would she be happy with these kind of fabrics?
blue/ pink floral

Sorry, just to clarify. I would either go for v pale pink accents or polka dot theme.

Shesaysso · 03/06/2013 22:13

Some good ideas thanks. I'd say she is more not keen on pink rather than absolutely hates it so the pink picture frame idea and cushions might work. I am unfortunately not very handy and lack 'creative' ideas. She definitely wants either a pale blue gingham or pale blue star duvet and I just look at them and then
and see the flaming pink curtains :/

fabric colour remover then dye would deal with the curtains problem.

MerryMarigold · 03/06/2013 22:18

(You need an untreated picture frame - Ikea do some which need a base coat and then the pink on top. Bit of a faff, but they are really, really cheap. Can't find on internet. They are basically 4x6 untreated pine).

I have just bought some bedding that would tie in nicely, it was from littlewoods catalogue will try to find a link for you.

damnitdamnit · 03/06/2013 22:27

It's not worked but you can google little garden littlewoods

I would have thought that once the walls and bed linens are blue the pinkness of the curtains will be toned down and you won't notice them nearly as much. A few pink bits and bobs and it will look beautifully designed (at least to a six year old!)
