Help me transform my hall into this!

I want to make my hall look a bit like this

I have the basics in place - lovely staircase (in dire need of tlc and not quite as posh as that one but basically good), good floorboards (again in need of tlc), lots of light.

Any ideas on paint colours to use for both walls/stairs and how to do the floor?

I need to work around a few bits of existing furniture including this chest (looks a bit darker than that irl), a very dark wood hatstand and dark wood framed mirror.

The bit that's puzzling me is what to do re curtains. The front door is quite draughty and definitely needs curtaining off and there is also a very tall window on the landing that equally needs curtains. Can't picture what colour would work for curtains?

From your pic, I would go for a gold on the curtains and basically follow the rest of the decor, although personally I don't like painted floorboards. I do like the black/ white of the staircase and walls though. Not sure how you'd do the actual treads of the stairs. The part of the hall which is darker looks similar to 'natural hessian' which is in my hallway. Possibly with white. I like the idea of using 2 colours. And of course the posh picture frames just finish it off. Auctions? Take out pics and put your own in.

Natural hessian is a dulux colour.

I assume the floor is a dark stain with a high gloss varnish over it. You'd need to strip your floor before staining it.

Curtains I think should be as plain as possible. I'd go with natural linen, or metis. And then match that with a similar linen colour for the walls. Farrow and Ball elephant's breath for example.

Thanks for the ideas - mm I do like the idea of natural linen for curtains and I think dh would too.
