Roman blinds - cassette v wooden batten

Can someone tell me if the added cost of having an aluminium cassette / cord mechanism (or whatever its called) is worth the extra? Does it give a much more professional finish than a covered wooden batton?

I still prefer what one of my clients calls 'traditional strings' - softer, less utilitarian looking. However I am increasingly getting asked for the rotary systems - and not just in kitchens/bathrooms, where I can see the practicality would win out. It is the less homemadey option so more professional and functional looking, not sure I can promise that it will actually work any better tho.
Do request a metal chain if you are being offered plastic - much nicer.
Expect to pay around £25-35 extra for the mechanism, depending on the size of the blind.
