Someone help my find a colour that goes with red and gold?!

We have red and gold demask wallpaper that we're putting up in the alcoves of our living room. Wallpaper is lovely and not garish as it sounds. I can't find a colour to paint the chimney breast and the other walls. Would like something neutral so that I could just re do the wallpaper instead of whole room if I fancy

I would go for magnolia/cream. Its the colours I picture my bedroom in one day.

Well I don't 'wish it was Christmas everydaaaaay'

We have red and gold curtains and a brown sofa in our sitting room. Went for dulux nutmeg white on the decorator's suggestion and it really works! We also have ash bookcases and pine boards so the warm tone suits very well.

It's a north facing, quite small sitting room and the colour mellows throughout the day.
