Nursery curtains

Hello folks.

I am tearing my hair out trying to find lovely curtains to fit the apparently odd shaped windows in our soon to be nursery.

I think we need short x extra wide ie 137d x 200+w.

The room is a lovely spearmint blue with white woodwork. We don't know if we're having a boy or a girl, and are looking for a bright unisex pattern (think spotty/striped/star print).

Any idea where we an purchase these mythical curtains? We'd like to buy ready made if we can as made to measure looks pricy!

Can't help as we ended up buying made to measure despite expense as couldn't find any curtains at all that were suitable. Very pleased with them, added blackout lining really helps. So many nursery curtains are really flimsy.

Could you buy a length of fabric and make your own? Or how about 2 pairs to cover the width?

I bought these and got them altered professionally, lined with blackout lining and two cushions made from the excess.
I asked in a local fabric shop for some phone numbers of, it only cost another £25 on top of the price of the curtains.
They look brilliant.

Interesting notso - is each panel 120cm or is that the total width? They're the kind of thing were after.

I'm trying to avoid making my own tbh! We're in a bit of a hurry as we want to move into the nursery temporarily while we decorate our bedroom. We don't tend to do things by halves ...

A blackout blind will be more useful then you could dress the window however you liked with fabric.

I'm happy to go with blackout blinds ... But I still can find suitable curtains. I don't think it's the blackout aspect that's the problem, it's my weird windows!

Each curtain panel is 120cm X 300cm Anything they are a concealed tab top so they don't need much gather.
I doubt you will find any ready made curtains to fit, we have the opposite problem to you narrow windows with a long drop and we struggle.
If you want to keep costs down the definitely look at having some ready-mades altered over some made from fabric.

Do they need to be short?

Yup they do need to be short - I'd like them to sit above the radiator. It's the width I'm struggling with really.

Just asking as our living room window is over 200 and our curtains are long length so wondered whether it might make your search easier.

These curtains are actually from Primark!

Our living room curtains are the same! I'm happy to get the extra length chopped off, but can't find nursery curtains that are both wide and long to even manage that!

Oh well. Tomorrow we go to price up made to measure. Fingers crossed!

What kind of pattern are you looking for?

How about getting a patterned blind but plain white/coloured curtains?

Have you looked at jojo maman bebe or dunelm?
As others have suggested may be easier to get curtains you really like and get them altered.

Look in your local Green Book, and if you're on Facebook, check out your local Gossip Girls or mums groups. I've found a lovely lady near me who makes made to measure blinds and curtains at a fraction of the high street prices. You buy your own fabric and she makes it up.

Other option would be a blackout blind and then longer curtains that you don't pull - just use them to frame the window.
