Buying bed online and without testing?

Dh has looked on line and is quite taken by factory-beds direct. He's spoken with them and is quite impressed by what they say.

I am not convinced as I think that you should go and lie on the bed to test. Although they say we can return the bed within 30 days if not happy, my concern is that unless the bed is awful you might end up just keeping it even if not very happy with it.

Has anyone bought a bed from this company or from anywhere else without testing and how is it?

Personally I wouldn't buy a bed without testing it first. They cost too much and you've got to sleep on it for a long time. Like you, I don't think I'd send it back even if it wasn't great.

I did buy one online for my DD (6 yrs) without testing and I have to say that if I'd tried it first I wouldn't have bought it - it's not great.

I agree, for what you spend on a good bed and because it is so instrumental in determining how you feel, it seems like a rubbish idea to buy without trying.

I wouldn't. After laying on quite a few in m&s, they are all quite different and that was the hi-end models.

I bought our bed from the Yorkshire Bed Co. We had been looking for a new bed for ages and had laid on several in John Lewis. Having had a "where do your mattresses come from?" discussion, I went off looking for our mattress of choice. It was made by Harrison's of Leeds, retailed through the Yorkshire Bed Co. we got a king size mattress and bedstead for the same cost as a double JL own mattress. Very pleased but it was a risk. Just a hint though. It's all about how many pocket springs are in the mattress. I had no idea you could get so many into a mattress.

If you know what to look for in a mattress then buying on line is not a problem at all. You could even try the different constructions for feel at stores and then ordering based on similar specification to what you liked at the store. Here is what you need to look out for; type of mattress; bonnell spring (traditional), pocket springs, latex, memory foam. If buying a spring mattress you need to make note of thickness of spring and no of coils per unit area. A thicker mattress usually means better with more padding and feel of luxury. Then it's the type of fabric used, cheap mattress have cheap fabric and more expensive ones have nicer fabric.

I would concentrate on the basic construction, the rest will fall into place.
