Ikea Hemnes day bed

Can anyone explain how the mattress works if you want to use them as a double bed? It says that to use as a double you have to use a foam or latex mattress so I assume you have to fold the mattress in half when the bed is in 'sofa' mode? I can't work it out from the pictures.

Have looked at the assembly instructions online but they don't help.

We've got one, two single mattresses. Wouldn't fold over a double. Awesome bed for storage. Not massively comfy but good for occasional use. Don't get mattresses that are too thick otherwise when in single 'sofa' mode you not get much of the back rest. We lurve ours...

we have one with two mattresses, dd keeps the spare tucked behind wardrobe, as its makes bed too high to use as a daytime sofa. as above poster says, great for storage, she has all sorts of shite stuffed in the drawers.

We have one and need to get rid of it, if you are interested and live in the Wiltshire area!

We've got one in the boys playroom for when my Dad stays overnight. We keep the 2 mattresses on top of each other with sheets on and use it as a sofa for them to sit in to read. The drawers have all the spare bedding in.

Ikea advised us on the mattresses. i think out of the 3 that would fit there was one that they advised against having - I can't remember which one or why though sorry. It's fab - perfectly comfy enough for a couple of nights and looks good too.

We have one and it's fab. There are two single mattresses and if you're using it as a day bed, they stack on top of each other. If you're using it as a double bed, they are side-by-side. It's a really comfortable bed and DS1 sleeps on it all the time as a double.

Ohhhhhh, I see: two single mattresses on top of each other, seems so obvious now...! We'd have to keep the duvet/pillows in the drawers due to lack of other available space but we need to make room for DC3....

Thanks hazey but we're East Anglia so not worth the fuel!

The only downside with it is that you have to buy specialist sheets to fit the mattresses, as they are non-standard singles (i.e. the equivalent of 2 ft 6 in)

BIWI - the sheets that I got from IKEA that should fit are very big as the mattresses aren't very thick - which ones have you got that fit

You can just use normal 3' single sheets and tuck the extra in. You need kingsize when it's a double. It's 80cm x2 so a large kingsize at 160cm rather than standard 150cm. Our kingsize sheets do fit but we often just use 2 single ones. Our DD has one.

I have this bed picked out for dd once she grows out of her toddler bed - is it too high for, say, a 3/4 yo to get uo and down from?

Mortified, my friends DS has had one since he was about 3 and he has had no problems with it.
