flooring for livingroom/diningroom in flat

Hi

We live in an upper villa and need to replace the carpet in our livingroom/ldiningroom.

We have two young children. Unfortunately as we live above a very noisy family sanding the florors is not an option as we would hear even more noise.

Need ideas about the best type of carpet or laminate to use. Got to be easy to clean and muffled noise both ways! Not blessed with a huge budget.

Well with two young children I would steer well clear of carpet!!

Laminate is easier to clean and isn't noisy providing you get the underlay right. Good underlay is everything in a flat
