Hi - looking for bunk beds for girls, preferably white wooden but don't wish to pay aspace prices as will also need mattresses, duvets, bedding all x 2

any tips?

I know they have them john lewis, argos, ikea, next but wondered if anyone has a recommendation?

Got ours online from a website that has since disappeared (white painted as you describe). My advice would be to go for full size single bed width rather than narrow ones and invest in comfy mattresses - DH and I have spent an incredible number of nights sleeping in the bunkbed with one or other DC when the have bad dreams / can't sleep etc so space and comfort are important.

Just got some for DC's room, from a online company called www.bunkbedsworld.co.uk, google bunk beds though and a few companies come up. We got some called Barcelona and they are great, slightly off white but full size singles and can be used as 2 single beds might be useful one day-if we ever get to move!

Get ones with flat rungs on the ladders. The other type are painful on your feet.

We got ours from flexa, not the cheapest but well made, very sturdy (top bunk can take my 15st husband no problem!) and look fab. We've had them about 3 1/2 years now and still as good as the day we got them.

I do think you get what you pay for.

Some here

lots here

When we bought bunk beds we bought ones that could be used as two singles should the need ever arise, to save any additional expense.

Second what nelly jelly said about the ladder!

The Argos ones are really good. My girls have had them for five years so far. We have white bunk beds with trundle underneath for friends. Really good price, I was a bit dubious before we bought them, but one they arrived I was glad we gambled!

Wow great advice, thanks so much all, would not have thought of ladder rungs, splitting into singles or making sure are full size singles!

You get what you pay for. I was horrified when I worked out the price plus mattresses. If you can, go for solid wood. When looking at ladders would add to check the angle as some are flush to the bed and others stick out at an angle.

From what I can tell, they come in 3 lengths, short (about 180cm, so shorter than standard), what I think of as normal for a single bed and what's called continental 200cm. So bedding can also be an issue. We got 200cm sheets plus mattress protectors cheaply at Ikea.

We got ours from M&S - not where I'd normally think of but they were on sale and included assembly - well worth it IMO! The 2 guys took about 20mins, were fabulous & very polite.

Forgotten what they're called right now, it'll come to me/or I'll google.

They are full-sized singles, the boys love the extra space; ds1 was in a narrow 2ft6 bed & ds2 was in a cotbed.
They officially cannot be separated into 2 singles but when I spoke to the guys assembling it they basically said of course they can, it's just they won't look quite as 'perfect' as there will be assembly holes visible once separated.

They are fab and the boys love them, boys are nearly 7 & just 5.

Aha, Hastings!

here

Purplehearts · 23/03/2013 22:46

I second the Hastings bunk beds from M&S, we have the white ones and they look great, well made and have the flat rungs on the ladder. My dc also love them, they're 6 & 4.

herhonesty · 24/03/2013 13:22

don't buy from John Lewis, very disapointed with ours.

tattychicken · 24/03/2013 13:41

Another one for m and s. Look out for a 25% off weekend and they're pretty good value, well made and inc mattresses. V happy with ours.

starmaker7 · 31/03/2013 19:15

ours are from Argos ,they are made by Thuka and are still going strong after 9 years :)

givemeaclue · 02/05/2013 14:34

thank you all who replied, I haven't bought any yet but definitely going to take all your advice on board
