Can't see the wood for the trees

Trying to redecorate the kitchen. We have units in french grey, worktops in a dark grey composite type thing, a light beige-y floor, and absolutely no idea what to do with the walls. They were originally 'timeless' (dulux) or something fairly beige-y, but feel the need for more colour. Have experimented with a light blue, but looks awful, have a bit of 'blue reflection' that looks quite ok, but would be too much on all walls. Any suggestions? Its all a bit rubbish at the moment and feel like we made a mistake with the units HELP!!

Hi. You could stay neutral with the walls and bring colour in with tiles, accessories, pictures, flowers or lovely fabric at the windows and on seat cushions. I am also trying to choose a kitchen at the moment, i think we've decided to go for soft greeny/grey units, similar colour stone floor and wood worktops. We re going to keep the walls neutral and then have some bold fabric, probably something with cream background, red/pink bold flowers with green leaves to tie it in with the units. Most of my rooms are neutral and i just add color with fabric, and its easy to change in a few years if you fancy a change. Hope this helps.

I would use a dark red on walls that have units on them, maybe using a beige that complements the dark red and also the floor on other walls. For accents, clean white also goes well with grey and dark red and keeps beige from looking dirty. I would go with white textiles (useful in a kitchen as they can be bleached and degreased in the wash) -- for tablemats or curtains, for instance. And maybe a dark-framed bit of art or two where the background is mostly white.

Wow- you lot are seriously good at this! I hadn't considered red - or wallpaper for some reason. Will spend a fortune on sample pots tomorrow! Going to take the paint charts to bed for further pondering Thanks all.
