Prints/ pictures for two year old's bedroom

We have painted DS2's room buttermilk, the curtains are a similar colour as is the lampshade. It is quite a small room but the walls now look quite bare (it had wallpaper on before).

I want to put some pictures/ prints/ transfers on the walls but I am not sure what kind of thing. I was thinking perhaps something incorporating letters and numbers,but doesn't have to. I'd like something stimulating (I mean to stimulate his imagination), not too babyish, and that I would like as well, because I am in there a lot (he is a v poor sleeper)! His brother aged five has a blue and red room with transfers of a race track with cars on, and car wallpaper in an alcove.

He likes Octonauts (but I don't really want "character" pictures, and the playroom hasn't been decorated so we often stick posters etc from magazines up in there) and Gruffalo (but I am a bit worried that the Gruffalo might be a bit scary in the night) and Alfie/ Annie Rose. I like vintage type things, like the pictures in Ladybird books and Mabel Lucie Atwell (but a bit twee for him?).

Any ideas?! I have to go read some bedtime stories now but I will come back later in case anyone has been brilliant enough to think of anything!

Vertbaudet do some lovely wall stickers and decorations for bedrooms. Love their stuff and have had lots of compliments on my DD's room.

We currently have peppa pig wall decals in dd's room; they've only been there a year, maybe less, and she's already gone past that phase...

You could get fish wall decals and paint on seaweed etc for an Octonauts theme without the octonauts.

Or if you prefer pictures (and something more easily updated) how about getting nice picture books from charity shops or library sales and framing some of the pictures. My dd had some Quentin Blake books for Christmas and while we're not that impressed with the stories I am thinking of framing some of the pages' illustrations as they're wonderful.

Partial's idea about picture books is good. I bought the Eric Carle prints and they fit perfectly in Ikea wooden frames. There are 12 removal pictures in the book so easy to change around when you or your son are ready for something new!

Have you had a look on Etsy.com? They have some wonderful prints and wall art on there, as do notonthehighstreet.com

DD has a woodland room, trees, foxes, toadstools, rabbits..

Google images for his favourite book character, add in a line from the book to go with it. Print out and frame. I have done this for my dc room with Dr Suess quotes, it costs nothing and is exactly the same as something you'd pay for.

My DS2 was given a lovely canvas for his bedroom wall (he is 9 month sold, so doesn't have opinions of his own on decor) from dunelm. Cheap.

Take a look at GLTC. If you like something, google the illustrator, as they will definitely have done other drawings, and that will take you to a range of other print, poster and canvas websites for you to browse,

I would get some of the box style photo frames. All different sizes and colours. And pop pictures inbox things he likes from cut out magazines/posters

So each frame would have a character in it he likes.

Easy to change when his tastes change.

I'd splash out in some lovely bookends and some books to and have them on a funky bookshelf

And a colourful rug

That way you're adding colour but its all practical stuff. Stickers I personally don't like, but more because they're difficult to change. And can be expensive.

I bought cheap canvas frames in poundland and wilkos and painted sea type things in blue, red and white. a sailing boat, a fish, a light house a starfish and that sort of thing.
Easy to change or paint over when you're bored.
I also fabric painted the cheap cushions from ikea.

Wrapping paper can be a cheap option- some gift shops have great children's paper that can be put up as a whole poster or cut up for small decals.
