Best sofa for kids?

We currently have a brown leather sofa but changing to a corner sofa....really want a change from brown leather. It's great for kids and easy to wipe clean with spills. But can anyone suggest an alternative? Maybe another colour leather (not white obviously) or is it a really bad move to go for a velvet one (which is what I would really love!).

I have a brown leather one in the dc living room and a black fabric chenille corner one in the main living space. The black one is so easy to wipe down with a damp cloth. I have 5 dc and they get a lot of abuse!
