Door knobs help

Have posted this before a long time ago & still haven't got any further in my quest for really nice solid door knobs. Need to replace all the interior door knobs of Victorian cottage. Love the oak beehive or crackled ceramic ones. Anyone know of any quirkie online shops? Googled so much my brain hurts! Don't mind spending at bit more if really solid nice ones - as the kids have seemed to wiggle a & break the cheapy B & Q ones.

Does anyone know whether door knobs need to be used in pairs, or whether it's possible to have one knob on one side of the door and a completely different type on the other?
