Has anyone ever driven in Nice?

We are hoping to hire a car to see the nicer beaches, and Ive never driven outside of the UK so am a little apprehensive.

Any tips? ie Where might I find good beaches with parking?

You do realize beaches in Nice are pebbles and not sand?

Sorry......realise (been communicating with Americans!)

Not all are shingle. Thats why we are getting the car....

I´d consider the possibility that the traffic could be absolutely terrible and you won´t move anywhere very fast along the coast at this time of year.. Parking could also be anightmare. Maybe someone who has been there more recently than me could fill you in on this.

It is lovely, but as GBhome suggests, parking is an absolute nightmare, and expensive. Traffic heavy. Sorry to be a killjoy, but we've queued for up to an hour and a half to get out of a car park at the end of the day (shock). Maybe save the car for pottering inland, and try out the buses. They're are fabulous down there, - perhaps go to the tourist office when you arrive, and get timetables. They're also really well priced and reliable, with air conditioning! Hope you have a lovely time, anyway.

Driving is chaotic much of the day and parking is almost impossible.

Thanks all! Maybe I'll leave the car idea then!

we went to Nice and relied on public transit with DD1 and DD2. we went to Monaco, Cannes, Juan Les Pins. both the bus and the train work really well, there is also tram which we didn't use. not sure how old your kids are, we try to keep the bus ride to less than 1 hour and take the train for longer rides. the beaches at juan les Pins are lovely. Bus seems to be very frequent but could take > 2 hours to Cannes.
