i'm trying to order a telepeage thingy (technical term!) for my holiday to france and it seems that i either need a french bank account or credit card

has anyone bought one with a british credit card or account?

also, how easy was it to get the 30Euro deposit back?!

TIA

I use this one

You pay €10 then €1.50 a month. (or €2 if you want a paper invoice instead of online)

We have a German credit card and it has not been a problem.

Can you use it with an English car registration? Don't quite understand how it work; I presume that a computer reads your numberplate?

dilbertina · 06/07/2010 18:41

We've driven right through France several times and currently live in France so driving throughout France a fair bit.....we have never been held up at a peage for more than a couple of minutes, and there aren't peages that often. (Unless of course we are living some sort of peage charmed life!)

I really would question whether it's worth shelling out much money for the fast pass thingy.

Good. Didn't really fancy the bother.

The Telepeage device is registered spcifically to you and you provide your credit card details for billing. It sits at the top of your windscreen and the toll booth recognises the device as you drive through. Your number plate is not read and it isn't car specific.

We have one and used it for a number of holidays. You will simply see an entry on your credit card when they bill you. UK credit card is fine.

If you can successfully navigate through the French website, I would recommend it.

OK; possible rethink. I wonder how long it takes to get one? As in whether they could/would send it to an English address and in the next two weeks?

cjlb · 08/07/2010 20:37

Yes they will certainly post to a UK address and IIRC it took about two weeks to arrive. If you are going on holiday in two weeks time, I wouldn't risk that it might not arrive in time.

Well, maybe next time.
