Driving to Vendee - stopover?

We'll be driving down to the Vendee in July - looking through the previous posts on mumsnet, it looks as though the novotel in rouen sud is the best option to stay over. Anyone been there recently? Anyone know any other places to stay - any french B&Bs who do evening meal? Have found some near Avvranches, but not near Rouen. Thanks so much!

And what overnight ferry did you take on the way back? I didn't think there was a overnight one from france to uk.

MmeRed, that's where we were too! I wonder if our paths crossed. It was a great site for teenagers - the towns were so accessible by bike, and ours spent a lot of time at the pool just "hanging" with other teens.

When were you there, AP? We were there last week, up until Sunday.

We were on last night's Brittany Ferry from Caen to Portsmouth.

Ah, teenagers. My son spent the whole week in the bar with a group of Irish teens. He came in at 1am every night. Had a whale of a time

ah, I never thought about caen sailings

We like Brittany Ferries, so it's either Caen or Cherbourg - but I hate that drive down from Cherbourg (I always get stuck behind a tractor). Caen is pretty easy. The port is only about 10 minutes from the Autoroute network.

We left on 19 July, just as the English holidays were starting. We had a fortnight there, and there were really only Scottish, Irish and Dutch teens there for the first fortnight in July.

I've just looked at DS's facebook page, and I see that some of the Irish teens' families have already booked up for the same period next year.

I don't like going to the same place twice, but I'd be really tempted to go back there because we didn't use the car once - we cycled everywhere, and it was so easy.

We arrived on the 18th. Who were you with? We were with Carisma, and they were great.

AgentProvocateur · 31/07/2010 22:52

Yep, we did too. I was amazed by how many couriers there were and how young they all looked. We didn't have much to do with them, but the DC thought they were all great.

MmeRedWhiteandBlueberry · 31/07/2010 23:03

Our DCs all thought they were great. My little ones simply had to do kids club everyday which we had to work around.

Plus, the couriers came to see us every day to see if we needed anything or to inform us of an activity, which I was impressed with.
