help with passports - conflicting advice from the helpline!, my passport expired 3 years ago..,

and it was also in my maiden name, so to apply for a new one, does it come under renewal or first passport?

the telephone helpline said renewal, but according to the website, if the name needs changing too (which it does), it's not a renewal, it's back to first passport application.

i'm confused!

I think as you have a passport number to write on the form it is a renewal (regardless of name change). But I am no expert.

Hi
I have recently changed my name on the passport. It was a renewal and didnt need to be counter-signed as I still looked vaguely like I used to.

You need to send off the marriage certificate. I dont think you need to send your birth certificate as well.

As London says, if they get your old passport number then they will link the two together.

Renewal - and you send them the old one together with your marriage certificate.

thank you!, i think with mine (getting kids too) i might do the send and check thing to be on the safe side. i'd rather it was a renewal as for a first one, you now need to have an identity interview which makes it all a much longer process.

bleeding nora, just re-read the 'how to' booklet, and if i am applying for a first time passport, despite being almost 40, i'd need to include my parents details!

Comes under renewal I think as you've already had a passport. Send the old one together with the marriage certificate.
