I don't really know you so I feel like a stalker - sorry!

We are flying to La Rochelle and staying at Interlude on Ile de Re. I've seen your review of the campsite and also after doing a search I saw your thread from last year when you were asking about transport from the airport.

We are in the same position this year, with a 5yo and a 2yo, and we don't want to be stranded with no taxis appearing.

Can I just ask - did you book a taxi and did it turn up ok?

I am thinking of emailing the same chap using the very helpful templates Claire provided on your thread

My French is not good...

Or of course if anyone else knows about transport from La Rochelle. Ahem.

I've heard it can be hard/impossible to get a taxi.

Taxis depend on what time of day it is, and whether you are first out of the airport.

There are buses to the Il de Ré but you would have to go to the town centre and change, not ideal with little ones.

You could e-mail this company:

[email protected]
and send somthing like this:

Nous avons besoin d'une taxi pour aller à l'il de Ré. Nous arrivions par avion à l'aeroport de La Rochelle le [put in date in form dd/mm/yy) à [put in time in form hhHmm (eg 15H30)]. Nous sommes 2 adultes plus 2 enfants en plus de nos valises.

Pourriez vous m'indiquer le prix.

Merci

Cordialement

[your name]

Then stick the reply through the google translator to check it.

French taxi's tend to be pretty ok - hope the templates are ok, if you need anymore help please don't hesitate to email. Hope you have a wonderful holiday.

doggiesayswoof · 27/06/2010 07:40

frenchfancy and Claire, thank you both so much!

I have emailed AAA taxis (as per Claire's suggestion on the thread last year) and he's got back to me so I think we are all set.

I will keep the other email address up my sleeve as well!

Can't wait - we go next week

Ooh - we're going there. Brilliant for me too, thanks.

policywonk · 28/06/2010 12:26

Sorry, missed this! The taxi guy was absolutely punctual and reliable. La Rochelle is a v. small airport, and he was holding up a sign with my name on it, so it was all very smooth.

Hope you have a brilliant time - we did.

Hi policywonk!

MN is great.

That's good to know, thanks - I emailed him back over the weekend with our times so we are sorted. The only downside is the expense. I didn't think we would be spending 100 euros on taxis when it's so close to the airport.

It's fever pitch in our house and we don't even go until next week.

DC have never been on a plane before

Am envious - the kids still talk about 'eel dur RAY' and ask when we're going back. Will be even better out of school holidays - is slightly hellish in August.

Thoroughly recommend St Marie en Re - v beautiful, beach much quieter than Bois Plage - and the main town on the other side of the island (can't remember name).

doggiesayswoof · 28/06/2010 14:15

Ta for recommendations. We're planning to get bikes and potter around the island a bit.

Tis good to be able to get away before August rush, yes. We're in Scotland so DD has finished school already.
