Dh and I are desperate to get away on our own for one or towo nights. What I'd really love is a hotel that is very grown up with out chintz (sorry any chintz lovers!) Does anyone have any recommendations in Devon, Somerset, Avon, Wiltshire, Dorset or Glos ? Thanks in advance

Just found these listed on the telegraph website - cool hotels by the sea in the uk:

Driftwood, Rosevine
Hell Bay, Bryher
The Abbey Hotel, Penzance
Old Quay House Hotel, Fowey
St Enodoc, Rock
Hotel du Vin, Brighton
The George, Yarmouth
Swan Hotel and Crown Hotel, Southwold
Hotel Continental, Whitstable
Harbourmaster Hotel, Aberaeron
Castell Deudraeth, Portmeirion

have you decided yet - sounds like a wonderful idea, hope the weather keeps up!

Oh, BK, I am spoilt for choice... and now more choice ... thanks. I feel really selfish because we've not been on holiday together and the children have never had a holiday but we really, really need a 'grown up' break with out the children to celebrate the fact that we are still here and together (and in love) after so many recent trials and tribulations.

Would really love Burgh Island but think dh wouldn't (and we will probably only be able to have one night away). Hotelduvin in Brighton looks great (love Brighton) but it's too far and I am not sure Bristol has the same appeal. Fingals and St. Enodoc look great too but they are too far away for just a night. Cowley manor and cotswolds House Hotel are possibilities.

Will show dh all the suggestions tomorrow night (tonight we are both busy ) And go from there. Will let you know what we decide.

Winnie1 there is a lovely Hotel du Vin in Winchester if that's closer for you? Not very near the sea though.

Someone mentioned the Lords of the Manor hotel in Gloucs somewhere to me and said it was very good. Can't recommend it personally as I haven't been there.

Lords of the Manor is nice but a bit chintzy. Would really recommend Cowley. Has all the urban cool of Babington but not quite so full on.

You will tell us what you decided won't you, and whether it was nice?
