Best mozzie spray for Venice

Going to campsite near Venice and have read loads of reviews about the mosquitos.

I have got 4yr old and 2yr old and am concerned that if they get bitten it will ruin holiday. I also am very prone to getting bitten. Have always used jungle juice in the past - anyone have recommendations.

Travelling on Sunday so need to get me arse in gear!

We had the worst mozzie bites of our lives in Venice. We got something from an Italian pharmacy. I did contain DEET but kept the buggers away. For inside our tent, we had a small battery operated thing which burned pastils. You couldn't smell it and it didn't affect our then, 8YO.

I have got one of those plug in things so will take that. I seem to remember someone mentioning the Avon mozzie spray being good? Any truth in it?

I used Jungle Fever last year when we stayed in the same area - didn't get many bites! Also burned those spiral htings which seemed to help - had it burning beside caravan when we were sitting outside - and citronella candles too! Which campsite are you going to?

I found Mosi-guard really good. I've used it all over the world after I ended up in A&E in the Cribbean with a blown-up face after a bite.
It absolutely reeks of a lemon-like fragrance, but I was really pleased to see an insect make a 180 degree turn one evening as it got to within a few inches of my skin.

Just checked their website; it's natural and can be used on children.

Also, I find the creams stay on for longer than the sprays.

Pack a sweater and mac the forecast is naff esp for MOnday it s due to be cool but then things brighten up .
They do spray the campsites generally . Raid do a natural spray thing which is supposed to be good you might get it in the local supermarkets ut runs on batteries.

Thanks for messages - going to Pra delle Torri. Will have a look at airport at Mosi guard although I got some tropical strength Boots own on the advice of the pharmacist. She was Italian though and warned me the mozzies are really bad this year plus they are coming in from Africa??? Have packed Piriton for DC when in case they get bitten!

Rosa - been checking forecast all bloody week and seen it looks like rain. Fleeces packed but hopefully it will brighten up like you say

The Avon Skin so Soft oil spray is quite good - but if you are staying near a lagoon, investment in some of the more hard-core stuff the locals use would probably be better.

I have never been bitten by mosquitos in Venice. I didnt even use any spray .

My parents are in venice at the moment and as a result of the recent deluges of rain, they tell me that the mozzies are rife.

maltesers · 24/06/2010 09:41

oh !! will take mozzy spray just in case then.

Mithered · 28/06/2010 12:44

Just got back and I used the tropical strength Boots own spray and none of us were bitten. There were plenty of people who did get bitten but they didn't spray.
