Hi

Does anyone reccommend a place to stay on our way to Marennes, nr Royan, France this Summer? We are a young family of 4 and need somewhere going and coming back from our camping trip. Prob in the Loire-ish area. Started looking at IBIS etc but can't see if anyone does family rooms. Then started fantasising about lovely French farmhouses.....

Motels/ hotels/B&B/ caravans/farms all considered!!

Any ideas?

Many thanks.

We've stayed here before. It is just off the motorway, they have family rooms and the restaurant if buffet style so it is quick and easy for the kids.

Not somewhere I would choose to stay for a long trip but fine for an overnight stop.

www.logisdefrance.com - check the tarifs on the hotel websites to see if they do family rooms. Nice authentic French hotels but you will be expected to use the restaurant.

www.hotelbb.com - good chain, very basic. They do family rooms but they will be selling out quickly.

we stayed here a while back. It was lovely-civilised.Rooms were big, so depends on how many in your family but they might be able to put in extra beds for you. It is near Doue La fontaine Loire valley south of Angers.

We are staying about 30mins from Royan for 2 wks in August.

We have booked the following b&b for stopover both ways (never been before but looks good) www.lalunelake.co.uk.

They have one family room and provide dinner and wine!! Also a splash pool for the kids to enjoy after the long drive.

Worth a look.

where are you heading Ruthie? We will also be in the Royan area in August. Have had a family house there for 38 years so let me know if you have any questions!
BTW that chambres d'hote looks very good.

Have stayed here before twice (but not for a while): www.lefleurayhotel.com. Was very friendly and welcoming when we were there. Also near Amboise which is a lovely and interesting place to visit if you have time.

Cremolatorium.. we are staying in a village outside St Jean D'Angely. We are staying on a small gite complex with loads to do for the boys.

What beaches would you recommend for day trips? Really looking forward to it, first holiday to France.

i would say the prettiest closest one to St jean is at Fouras. Fouras is what they call a presqu'ile ( nearly island!)and is out on a promontory. The beach there is down some small cliff steps from the town centre ( so handy for cafes and restaurants.)On windy days the kite surfers have the run of the beach which is fun to watch from the seafront.www.le-bois-vert.fr/IMAGEBV/grande-plage-en-aout.jpg

If you prefer somewher a bit wilder you could try a day trip to La Grande Cote; aim for the stretch south of La Palmyre and north of St Palais sur mer. you could combine it with a trip to the zoo at La palmyre which is rather good, but expect to stay about 3-4 hours as the zoo is huge.also be prepared for queues in the middle of the day!ipicture.mobi/?c=fr&UF=149499&UN=183435&DG=BCH
