Driving through France but no car registration documents!!!

We have just bought a new (to us) car, and have just sent off to the DVLA for the amended log book. We have been told it will take up to a month to arrive, but we are just about to go on a self-drive holiday to France.

Everything we are reading says it is ESSENTIAL to take car registration documents with you. Argh!

Any advice on what we can do, or what will happen if we go without the documents - which we will have to do! Nothing is ever easy [sigh]!

You run the risk of having an on the spot fine if you don't have your documents but I don't know how much it is. My DH's replacement V5 took only a week to arrive so it may come sooner.

I read somewhere that the fine is €90 (for anything such as not having flourescent jackets, warning sign, correct documents etc etc). Do you think they could charge this more than once?

I think they could...it would be quite stressful worrying about the possibility too. Could you hassle ring the DVLA and see if they could help.

I'm stressed at the very thought of it. My DH rang DVLA today but they were pretty unhelpful, but he didn't explain to them the holiday issue - just asked them how long it would be.

The problem is we didn't have a log book to send in, so they have to do checks prior to issuing the V5. Apparently the whole process takes 4-6 weeks, and we go on holiday almost exactly 4 weeks after we sent the paperwork into the DVLA. We know they have processed our payment, so there's still a chance we might get it, although knowing our luck it'll probably arrive the day after we've gone on hols!

Will ring the DVLA and explain the whole issue tomorrow..... The annoying thing is EVERYTHING else is sorted. We have another car but its very small and there will be 4 of us and much luggage!!
