Formal evening. What should an 8yr old wear?

We are going on a cruise in the Med in July with Royal Carribean.

Dd will happily wear a dress most evenings so the formal night for her will not be a problem.

My ds is 8 and does not have a suit/black tie obviously (and I think they are rather naff on children), what should he wear? Could he get away with chinos and a shirt?

Maybe I should have posted this in 'Style'

he is only 8 so i think anything goes as long as its not holey jeans. I even think chinos are too much personally. I think a smart pair of black denims with a good quality quiet tshirt or shirt will be fine. Let children be children.....no one expects them to look like fashion models. I agree with you that young boys look naff in shirts and ties.

They'll be lucky if he is clean, quite frankly

Might have to hide his crocs and trainers that night though.
