We're thinking of going here and would love to hear from anyone else who has.

Recommendations for nice places to stay that are quite central and things to do etc.

We've just come back from a long weekend in Berlin - our first visit there with the DC (but I know the city quite well as I lived there for a couple of years).

We stayed here as they had rooms that slept up to 6 (we have three young DC) - which was OK, although there was quite a bit of traffic noise at night and the decor in the room was slightly dated. Good breakfast though, and conveniently located (on the bus route from Tegel airport and a few minutes walk to the nearest U-Bahn).

As for what to do, it really depends on the age of your children. There are lots of good museums (the Story of Berlin museum is supposed to be very interesting) but ours are a little young to appreciate them atm and we wanted to make the most of the sunny weather (haven't seen enough sun this year!).

Places we visited/what we did while we were there:

TV Tower (great views from the top, and the DC were fascinated by the revolving restaurant)
Bus tour (you can see a lot of the sights from the no. 100 and 200 buses - far cheaper than the normal sightseeing buses)
Zoo and aquarium
Boat trip

There are lots of parks and lakes (Wannsee is nice) and if we'd had time, we would have gone to the Pfaueninsel (Peacock Island), which you can get to by ferry from Wannsee.

Hope that helps!
