We will be heading to Sweden for a family wedding at the end of June and plan to spend a week on our own - me, hubby and a just turning 3 year old!

We are fortunate to have family accommodation about an hour south of Stockholm, but would like to get away on our own.

I don't want to bore our son with too many museums.

I have a vague notion that we could camp or rent a camper van, but as I say, that is just a vague notion. Any and all advice welcome. If there are interesting places that a 3 year old woud be amazed by, I'd love to hear about them.

what about spending a week camping on Gotland?

If you're south of Stockholm, a great day out is Tom Tits. It's a fantastic day out for children and adults, I think suitable for all ages.

If you want to avoid Stockholm altogether, then you have Nyköping, which is a beautiful area (as is most of Sweden anyway).

There is Kolmården a great animal park with options of staying in the safari hotel or camping in the zoo overnight

Website here for an overview of Sweden. Basically if he likes water and forests, then you can't go wrong!

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I'm quite keen to camp. Not sure about the weather though! Tom Tits and Kolmården look like the kind of things he would be fascinated by!

The weather will be fantastic, summers are normally very hot and dry (July/August being the hottest.

I will warn you about moquitoes though, they seem particularly massive this year

Blimey, it's not the royal wedding you're going to is it?

Was in Sweden 20 years ago and I'm still talking about the insects!!

Do you think they'll mind me turning up in mud-stained clothes Mrs

You can use my washing machine if I can come to the palace with you

I thought the Royal wedding was off...?
