So, have just booked my flight to Toronto in July. Travelling on my own with a very active 15 month old who is nearly (but not yet) walking and my 3 and a bit year old. She completely panicked about sitting in her own seat for the take off last year and my husband and I had to use all our strength to restrain her and keep her buckled in for take off - we ended up delaying the flight while we sorted this....We lied about her age on the way back so she could sit on my lap for the take off - she was fine for the rest of the flight. Oh dear, even as I write this I think I must be mad. Anyway, she has not flown since but she is a year older and more aware etc... The 15 month old will be on my lap this time.....We had to go as I need to see my parents and they have an amazing time once we get there. Is an 8 hour flight. Any tips to make it a bit easier????
Thanks

Sedation? it's the best I can come up with at the moment. I do think you are seriously bonkers to consider doing it alone, OTOH, she is a year older and may be more receptive to bribes.

i went to china in April with my 38 month and 14 months and stayed there for 1.5 months. i started to explain to my 3 years old well ahead of time as when we came here from vancouver in january she didn't enjoy the flight. i was with my husband, this time just myself but i was so pleasantly surprised. she was much better behaved than last time i think she knew only myself so she needs to behave. she was really eager to see grandma so she WANTED to fly. we did a 10 hour trip, then 3 hours in BJ airport, another 1 hour flight and a 2 hour car ride to be at my parents. i wasn't sure about doing all this on my own and without stopping overnight. but as i really want to do it and considering we arrived in bj at 9am if we don't keep going, i will be on my own to entertain them for the day and the night then go on again, i opt to do it all in once and the kids did better than me. i have motion sickness
really, just relax and try to explain to your older one as this is an exciting trip and the flight is only way to get there. i did bribe mine with sweet treats, to help with thediscomfort when taking off and landing. i hold my 14 month, she isn't too mobile yet. try to get the first row as it has more space. we didnt use hte bassinet as she is scared when i put her in it.
we had a great time and i'd do it again.
good luck!
