My FIL looks set for a long term stay in the William Harvey. DH is only child and no other family so he's going there every weekend as we dont live/work close enough to visit in the week. DS1 is 7 and very lively, DS2 is 22 months and well behaved but dont fancy taking either of them to the hospital. So that we can have more family time, I thought we could all go to Ashford and then I could take the boys to a park/ activity for a couple of hours. Any recommendations please?

hi nearest place to WH that i know of is a ball climbling place which you do have to pay a few pounds to go into for the children its on orbital park ,can give directions if you like it used to be called kidz city but i think its changed its name now and its liteally two minutes from the hospital you would be able to go there if weathers bad and obviuosly theres food drinks and toilets etc. i do know of other places but thats the closest to you.

Thanks kittycat. I did have a brochure of a ball pool place called Imagination in Ashford. Would that be the one? Is there also a traditional play park? I am thinking of dropping DH at WH then we are free to go off for an hour or so.

Imagination isn't on Orbital Park but would be fairly easy to get to from the WHH as long as you have a car.

There is a nice "proper" little park on the Park Farm housing estate but it isn't very big so I doubt it would be enough to occupy your 7 yo for an hour.

You could drive up to Port Lympne Animal Park. That's a nice way to while away the hours and loads of space to run.

There's climbing frames and seesaws etc at the play bit in the Outlet centre, not far from the WH. It's not great, but under cover and there are loos and coffee bars (and shops, obviously).

can also recommend the play centre at outlet centre my knids love it also there is areally good traditional park with lots of stuff up at stanhope, also recommend rare breads centre in tenterden/wood church also a great park in tenterden but thats alot further to go. port lympe is probably to far i would have thought a good half an hour or more in the car there is also a great little ammusement park where rides are cheap by the beach at dymchurch as well could spend the whole day there if you wanted to and play on the beach again though its about half an hour or so away by car.
