Brittany at end of August beginning September-weather and North V South coast advice

We are looking at Brittany now for summer holiday and are just booking now
A few options left for either last few days in August beginning September or a week in mid/late July
Is there a definite difference between North and South Coast weather??
Should we book North or South coast if we want warmer weather????
Indecision.......

We are on the South coast (near Vannes) and I would say since we have lived here (6 years) September is the most consistantly warm month. It's not scorching like it can be in July and August, but it is reliably mid-twenties most days (and the sea is very warm!!) (Waits for the freak snowstorm this year!) I don't know how this compares with the north as I don't know the other coast at all....hope that helps.

Brittany is similar weather to SE England so could be glorious or equally could be an unbroken week of rain and cold.

If consistent sun is important to you the has to be South coast. However, I would avoid Riviera area if poss as gets VERY crowded in school hols.

shameless plug alert - My db is director of tourism for Brittany and he's just sent me a link to their shiny new website - www.BrittanyTourism.com went live today! Should give you some ideas Darrell!

jenpet We stay a couple of hours further North, neat Avranches/Villedieu every year (family have a house there). We do a lot of exploring but haven't made it Vannes-way yet. It looks lovely

Do you have any pointers for us? We have one 10yo DS.

  • Sorry for the thread hijack DarrellRivers ! We live in SW.England - I'd say that a warm day in N.Brittany is warmer than a warm day in SW England but as Mauve says, it can also be chilly and wet.

Hello theboywithetc I love Villedieu! That's the pan town!! I remember going there on holiday when I was little & we often pass through it on the way to the ferry...
We have an 8 & a half year old DS, so can certainly recommend boy-friendly things - monkey parcs, adventure parcs etc, but what do you like doing?? I run a gite down here, and the most people who come rate the beaches fairly highly, Vannes itself is a great city & very walkable, there are endless festivals on in the summer & the shops are great. You can cat me if you want any more specific info, and there are some more links etc on our website ; www.gorvellogite.com (hope it's alright to put that)

Thanks for the advice, we decided on Zakynthos in the end to ensure sunshine.
Now we are bound to get stranded with volcanic ash
