...to get a one week holiday in high season (first two weeks of August) in a self catering apartment (one bedroom is fine, but need pull-out sofa and cot for the kids), near the beach, with a pool, somewhere hot in Europe for £500 per person or less?

Or AIBU?

I am trawling the net and every apartment in my price range either looks like a cockroach infested dump, or is 2 miles from the beach.

Grrr!

Hi.
We always use holidaylettings.co.uk to book private apartments/villas at a fraction of the cost. Just book flights and car hire and insurances separately (all online)to complete the holiday package.

Last year stayed in 2 bed apartment in Fuerteventura for about £400 per week. Lovely apartment with shared pool on golf course, great views. 5 min drive from beach (we always hire a car but free bus available from hotel 2 min walk away) Have been looking at villa in Playa Blance, Lanzarote this year. £450 all year round but they are booked up this summer unfortunately.

Will never go through travel agent again. Some gorgeous places available. Flights cost more from Manchester to canaries! Cheaper from South on the whole.

Hope that is of some help. Let me know if you want any more info. Good luck!

Sorry didn't answer question before but yes (depending on how many of you there are going) £500 each is certainly do-able. We paid less than £2000 for the 4 of us in fuerteventura including all flights etc. and had a fantastic holiday. No cockroaches! 2 big bedrooms, balcony and massive roof terrace. I love trawling the net and getting the best deal!

try googling L'Estartit in Spain, Costa Brava.
it's about 45 mins from Girona airport (ryan air) and about 2 hours drive from barcelona airport
There are lots of appartments but it is not too touristy or over developed and has a magnificent beach, surrounding scenery and chidrens playgounds.

A very laid back resort

( we are planning on going back this year for the 4th time , if I can find a villa for us all )

Ooh, thanks all (forgot I had posted this).

Will have a look at suggested links.
