Buying travel insurance this week - who should I pick?

Anybody got any ideas which travel insurance would cover costs of repatriation and other unforeseen costs if the volcanic ash delays or causes cancellation of holiday?

We've booked a package to a canary island with one the best known (Thompsons). We Could buy the insurance with the travel agent (first time we've used a travel agent for years). Which insurance companies should we pick or avoid?

i have insurance with the post office as it is good for a year etc

but no idea for ash clouds

Aviva will be offering a volcanic ash add on to their insurance from June. Some insurance companies covered the ash last time round, but mainly as a good will gesture. Some didn't help - can't find a list but I remember that Greenbee (John Lewis) was one that didn't pay out.

Natwest were covering the ash cloud with no questions asked but that may have changed. You probably need to ring a few and ask them directly.

Which did a thing on travel insurance in the last issue.

Multitrip est buys for families were topnotchcover - silver
Simple -standard (europe only)
Primary-standard (europe only)
Multitrip.com -Premier
Protectyourbubble.com -premier

Single trip best buys for families were
yourtravelcover.com -gold
topnotchcover-silver
Simple - standard
A to Z travel

Don't forget that if you are buying single trip cover and may end up stuck somewhere you will need enough time on the policy to cover the extension.

PS don't buy insurance from Thomson as likely to be much more expensive.

Have a look at Which online for more details (you can sign up for a free trial if you are not a member)
