Dear Mumsnetters
We are planning a 2 wk holiday to Italy at the the end of June with our DD who will be turning 3. We hope to incorporate Venice and Rome. Does anyone have any tips/experience re accommodation in these areas, and also suggested itinieries which have worked well for you? Any tips/advice/suggestions would be highly appreciated!
thanks

Venice can be hot and humid not much fun for a 3 yr old. Suggest staying possibly on the Lido then you have the beach option as well.
You can fly from Venice to Rome and vice versa but taking the train is just as quick ( check in / transport to and from Rome ciy centre etc ) If you decide on Venice let me know if Ican help more.

Venice is fab because you can hop and on off the vaporetto, which is basically the bus service but on the water. I found that if fuelled with ice cream and pizza, DS would be happy with almost anything.

Agree to stay by the beach in venice - ask Rosa on Little Italy - she is the font of all knowledge on all things venetian!!! Rome is great but you may find it hard going with a 3yo!! The Italiand love children tho so make sure you do as Mary says and keep the ice creams flowing! Tkae a buggy!!

I have partner who rents out apartment with two large bedrooms and very spacious in Guidecca in Venice. Its really lovely. We are going in July. Its available last two weeks in June.

I third the Lido option. You also get a view of the main island coming in that you would never get if you stayed on it!

Thanks to you all for your very helpful comments. They swayed the decision to avoid Italy this time round, so we have now decided on and booked our holiday in Crete! We may take another holiday in October so will hopefully aim to spend that in Italy. Thanks again.
