Is it worth buying cheap suitcases or should I invest??

We bought a set of 3 from Argos for £60 5 years ago. Now they are totally trashed, wheels off, rips in covers, zips failing etc.

Should I have bought Antler or Samsonite or should I just go back to Argos?

Hello, this thread is a little old and some of the recommendations might be out of date. Whether you’re looking for cheap and cheerful family luggage or you’d like to invest in a quality cabin bag, take a look at our round-up of the best suitcases (according to Mumsnetters) for more up-to-date advice. I have always bought really good quality stuff, antler and samsonite for suitcases.

My suitcases are still going strong 9 year on, where as my parents who buy cheap every time have had 4 sets of luggage in the same amount of time.

Aha! That answers the question!
Thank you

I don't buy cases anymore. I get cheap holdalls from e bay that don't weigh 1/4 of you luggage allowance like some cases do.

Got bags 5 years ago on e bay and they are still going strong. Only paid around 30 quid for them.

I would second the holdalls on wheels, easier and lighter

Holdalls on wheels?
Sounds interesting too. Any links?

Wheeled holdalls

We have two, they are great. Light and hold plenty.

I'd vote Samsonite, as I absolutely love(d) my previous one. It is really light, but strong, so I can pack stuff without worrying whether they'd be broken in transit. It also pulls very easily compared to some cheaper products I've used.

Unfortunately, after a couple of years, the one wheel must have broken or something, as it makes a really, really annoying clicking sound all the time. I think I'll save up and replace with another one though.
