Is it possible to take a direct bus or walk part of it. I know I could take a cab but want to save some money.

hate taking the tube and want to walk some of it if possible.

Any advice appreciated.

Look on www.tfl.co.uk and do an advanced search and say you only want buses and walking

You will be able to do it but it may mean two buses although having said that I think you can probably walk across Hungerford bridge and get a bus along the Strand to Kensington

Thanks guys. I just had a bit of a panic last November on can't remember which station but the really big escalators. Thank god I was with dh at the time.

Pathetic isn't it?

Do you have to have correct money or a prepaid ticket?

I'm sure they are used to tourists and out of towners.

Prolesworth, that sounds good. I really shouldn't avoid it so I may do that. I know the tube is a lot quicker.

You wouldn't believe I worked in London years ago and would get on tube all the time.

You need to buy tickets in advance to get on the bus - you can't pay when you get on anymore, you either have to have a travelcard/oystercard or buy a ticket from the machine at the bus stop (but that's a bit risky)

Ooh maybe - I thought zone one was the rule but obviously not You definitely can't pay cash at Waterloo

There's a major bus hub out front of Victoria Station, so if you want to walk a bit, I'd walk over the river (by Big Ben/Houses of Parliament and past Westminster Abbey) and down Victoria Street.

If you have enough energy/time, you can walk all the way to Victoria Station (I'd estimate it is 1 - 1.5 miles from Waterloo, though heavily congested with pedestrian traffic so not 'fast' walking).

You'll definitely be able to get a direct bus from there to Kensington. Sorry I can't tell you which number bus though.

Thanks everyone. This has helped a lot.

Moving to the country seems to have dented my confidence somewhat.
