Im wondering how the financial problems have affected holidaying in Corfu or maybe Greece as a whole? Going next week! Have been many times before, just wondering if it made everything really expensive or were there any other problems?

it will make evrything more expensive........went to halkidiki last year and it cost a fortune even without the crisis. I dont think greece is cheap any more and ive been going to greece for over 30 years

Hi, I am in Greece and everything has got more expensive over the last couple of years. Petrol is now 1.5 euros per litre so if you are hiring a car be prepared!

Everyone has been/is really worried that the crisis is going to affect tourism this year so I personally think that you will be welcomed with open arms for still believing in us.

You don't need to worry about the violenec etc that been taking place in Athens as, as far as I know it hasn't been happening anywhere else. I will give you the heads up about one thing though another general strike has been called for Thursday 20th May so if that is the day you are flying over it might be worth checking with your airline as to whether that will affect you.

Otherwise the weather is warming up and it's a fantastic time to visit Greece! Happy holidays.

is it calming down a bit for you now. I was going to go and work for a friend in corfu town til i found out what the pay was for a 12 hour day......as much as i would love to work in his restaurant.....i couldnt afford to pay rent on the wages that were being offered so ive had to reconsider .

Things have been fine but there's another national strike on Thursday - hope it stays calm.

Yes salaries are very low here and this is the problem for ordinairy people - the cost of living has rocketed whilst salaries have remained very low.

Apart from not being able to pay your rent I also doubt that any insurance would have been paid for you which in turn means that if you were ill/had an accident you would have to start paying out for medical care. And, no insurance = no taxes and herein lies the problem! (of Greece)

actually my employer to be,said he was going to deduct tax which made my pay even worse. I really love Greece though...i always feel at home when i go.

Its two years since we were there last and each time we go we find it more expensive. I m not flying on Thursday thankfully!
